Shave of the day, 20th July 2020, Soap Commander Renewal

  • Pre-Shave : Shower
  • Brush : Friendship Shaving Macy Dual Band Badger by Frank Shaving
  • Soap : Soap Commander Renewal
  • Razor : Rockwell Model T w/Rockwell Blade
  • Post Shave : Soap Commander Renewal Aftershave and Balm
  • Others : Menthol in a Grinder

Grabbed a freshie soap today but as it has no menthol, I added my own.
Soap Commander’s lather is right up there with the best of them.

Used the Model T again and now that I am used to its idiosyncrasies, like needing to check for blade alignment and balance, something that you really should not need to do with such an expansive razor, and stuff like making sure your fingers have alum as the knurling on the handle is useless and slips with wet soapy fingers, I’m able to use this with a good degree of satisfaction.

However, if you want to buy a Rockwell, stick with the 6S/6C.

With care and zero pressure applied, I managed a clean BBS shave.

Shave of the day, 19th July 2020, Taylor of Bond Street Sandalwood

  • Pre-Shave : Shower
  • Brush : Friendship Shaving Macy Dual Band Badger by Frank Shaving
  • Soap : Taylor of Bond Street Sandalwood Herbal Hardpuck
  • Razor : Razorock MJ-90A w/Bic Chrome Platinum
  • Post Shave : Taylor of Bond Street Sandalwood Aftershave, Thayers Gentlemen Aftershave Balm

Love this soap!
Scent and performance made for a great shave especially if you go for a face lather.

Took up the MJ-90A this time, I would have preferred if the head wasn’t aluminum but it is a damn good improved DE89 based razor.
I’d highly recommend this to a new user over the Edwin Jagger DE89 as it fixed a number of issues with the original and tweaked the shave geometry to give a smoother shave.

Extremely smooth, and when paired with a good sharp blade is a joy to use.
Easy BBS shave.

Shave of the day, 18th July 2020, Proraso Wood and Spice

  • Pre-Shave : Shower, Proraso Wood and Spice Pre-Shave
  • Bowl : Van Yulay Resin
  • Brush : Friendship Shaving Macy G4 Synthetic by Frank Shaving
  • Soap : Proraso Wood and Spice
  • Razor : Viking Blade Emperor Augustus w/Bic Chrome Platinum
  • Post Shave : Proraso Wood and Spice Aftershave Balm and Beard Balm

Picked up stuff stuff I haven’t used in a while.

Wood and Spice’s scent is still as awesome as I remember it to be, performance is so so but given the price of cream it is more than decent.

And yes, I am using a beard balm even though I have no beard. I find it very soothing to the skin especially on top of and along with the balm, it also another layer on the scent.
Just a few drops of each is enough and does the job.

I did say that I find the scent to be awesome. 😁

Razor performed far better then I remembered.
There are some idiosyncrasies with the razor that I understand is part of the design, like having to first set to Max aggression to put in a blade, than set to the aggression you want before closing the doors in full, as well as the slight curvature of the blade when the doors are fully closed which is weird to my eye but doesn’t seem to affect the quality of the shave.

Very smooth, zero irritation, clean BBS shave.
Actually, I think it performed better then my Rockwell Model T and that’s saying something.

Shave of the day, 17th July 2020, Stirling Agar

  • Pre-Shave : Shower, PAA Cube
  • Brush : PAA Peregrino
  • Soap : Stirling Agar
  • Razor : Tatara Nodachi Base Plate + Masamune Top Cap w/Bic Chrome Platinum Blade
  • Post Shave : Stirling Agar Aftershave
  • Others : John Varvatos Oud EDT (not pictured)

Flip shift work day, decided to grind in some menthol to get a cool shave and decided not to use the balm as it is a warm muggy night at around 32deg c (around 90deg f) with the tropics humidity, yeah, its going to be uncomfortable.

With the Nodachi base mix and Bic combo it was an effortless shave.
Easy, clean, true glass BBS.

Shave of the day, 16th July 2020, Wet Shaving Products Matterhorn (Creed Silver Mountain Water)

Pre-Shave : Shower
Brush : Oumo SHD Silvertip Badger
Soap : WSP Matterhorn (Creed Silver Mountain Water)
Razor : Tatara Masamune Base Plate + Nodachi Top Cap w/Bic Chrome Platinum Blade
Post Shave : WSP Matterhorn Aftershave Splash and Balm
Others : PAA Unscented Deodorant, Al Haramain L’Aventure Blanche
unisex EDP (Creed Silver Mountain Water)

It’s been too long since I used Matterhorn.
Way too long.

Its scent has been one of my favorites even from my fraghead days reproducing Creed’s Silver Mountain Water to a T.
Just lathering up, doing a face lather brought a smile to the face.

Lather was, is excellent as always, with superb slickness, residual and post shave, leading to a one pass ATG, XTG and ATG all in one shave with the Tatara and the Sword of Achilles.
Pick up was unnecessary but I did it anyways, didn’t want to waste all that lather in the brush. 😂

I love this razor combination. The razor’s blade geometry (gap 0.90mm, exposure negative -0.03mm and a 20 degree angle of attack) with precision engineering that doesn’t allow any blade flex or chatter, lends to an ultra smooth shave while the blade just takes growth off with barely any resistance while still being extremely smooth.

Today’s shave was just such a joy to experience and it’s why I will never go back to goop and cartridges.
Extremely comfortable easy true glass BBS shave.

Shave of the day, 15th July 2020, Razorock Alchemy

  • Pre-Shave : Shower
  • Brush : Friendship Shaving Macy G4 Synthetic by Frank Shaving
  • Soap : RR Alchemy
  • Razor : Blackland Vector w/Feather Super Professional Blade
  • Post Shave : RR Alchemy Aftershave, Thayers Aftershave Balm

Alchemy’s scent is a weird beast. Citrus, mint and dirty vetiver (with resinous woods but mostly vetiver) makes for strange bed fellows. There are times when shaving with it and I go “WTF is this?! Why did I buy it?” and other times ” Holy crap, I like!”
Though, to be fair, the times when I liked it more was when I ground in some menthol. The soap is not mentholated and I personally think that was a mistake.

The Vector is as always, a joy to use.
Easy BBS shave.

Shave of the day, 14th July 2020, WSP Gaelic Tweed

  • Pre-Shave : Shower
  • Brush : Oumo SHD Silvertip Badger
  • Soap : WSP Gaelic Tweed
  • Razor : Rockwell Model T w/Rockwell Blade
  • Post Shave : WSP Gaelic Tweed Aftershave and Balm

Simple and easy work day shave with WSP, with Gaelic Tweed’s scent, pleasing as well. WSP’s performance is as always superb.

I know most hate the Rockwell Razor Blades but it works great in the Model T. Its still lightly tuggish but not uncomfortable and was able to give a clean no irritation BBS shave.

Shave of the day, 13th July 2020, Zaharoff Signature Pour Homme

  • Pre-Shave : Shower
  • Brush : Friendship Shaving Macy Dual Band Badger by Frank Shaving
  • Soap : Gentlemen’s Nod Zaharoff Signature Pour Homme
  • Razor : PAA Copper Ascension w/Feather Blade
  • Post Shave : Gentlemen’s Nod Zaharoff Signature Pour Homme Aftershave
  • Others : Zaharoff Signature Pour Home Scented Candle, Eau De Parfum, Extrait De Parfum Solid Colonge

Sometimes, going down that Full Monty experience route needs a little more effort.

In this case I had to allow the lit candle some time to heat up the top layer of wax to allow for the scent to fill the bathroom, about ten minutes, then blowing it out and allowing the melted wax’s heat to waft up its stored scent.

The scent can be boiled down in description as spice lavender oud and woods. While there’s a lot going on with the scent notes, those are the most prominent, especially lavender.
Personally I love the fusion of old and new, of East and West, but I think this might be a polarizing scent.
You’ll either love or hate it.
Strongly suggest you get a sample if you can before buying.

The soap itself and lather produced is pretty good, though, you do have to load a little heavier than with say with PAA or Stirling, with those soaps ten to twelve swirls with a damp brush in the tub will generate lather enough for 5 or more passes, while with the Cardinal base, on my first use, I had to work the brush a little more before I was happy with the feel of the soap taken up by the brush.

Lather is thirsty, and if you face lather, that initial build up will be fantastic, but the follow up applications may feel a little thin. Still the lather has good overall slickness, residual and post shave.

The CATA-DOC with a Feather easily buffed off any growth off the face, leaving only a clean, glass BBS skin.

Shave of the day, 12 July 2020, Pre De Provence 63

  • Pre-Shave : Shower
  • Brush : PAA Peregrino
  • Soap : Pre De Provence 63
  • Razor : Blackland Vector w/Feather Super Pro Blade
  • Post Shave : Osage Rub, Pre De Provence Post Shave Balm
  • Others : Menthol in Salt Grinder

Pre De Provence 63 is relatively easily available via Amazon for Singaporean wet shavers.

Scent notes are :
Peppers, Citrus, Cedar, Plum, Violet leaves, Amber, Leather and tobacco.

Scent on both balm and soap is light so it won’t interfere with any scent you want to wear.
Lather is relatively good. It’s thirsty, has good slickness with decent residual slickness and post shave.

Balm is of the creamier lotion type and goes on easy.

All in all, the lathering up, scent and shave feel from the lather is quite enjoyable.
It’s a decent offering for those who just wants a good shave soap that’s a step up from Proraso and not pay too much (free shipping with Amazon Prime) to get it to you.

Oh, I choose to add in a little menthol to the shave as its been a warm night here in the tropics.

Used the Occam’s Razor Oren last night and for the morning, went with the Vector.
I take back that the Vector edges the Oren out, I think it blows the Oren out of the water.
The Vector is much easier to handle and because the head is so nimble, your control of the shave is just that much more precise.

While the Oren is more comfortable, almost cartridge razor in feel because of the floating blade, having that balance of blade feel, comfort, extreme ease of handling and control makes the Vector a much better choice for me.
YMMV of course.

Finished with Osage rub, than the balm.
Fanfreakingtastic!

Shave of the day, 11th July 2020, Stirling Glacial Obsidian

  • Pre-Shave : Shower
  • Brush : PAA Peregrino
  • Soap : Stirling Glacial Obsidian
  • Razor : Tatara Nodachi Base + Masamune Top Cap w/Feather Blade
  • Post Shave : Stirling Glacial Obsidian Aftershave, Thayers Gentlemen Aftershave Balm

The second Stirling I own, Glacial Obsidian didn’t disappoint.
Scent is sweet anise, think of Hacks Black Cough-drops, with menthol.
A whole lot of menthol.
Any menthol head needs to get one of these.
Seriously.
The only way I can describe the amount of menthol in it and the Aftershave is, “Cold to the point where it borders on pain and pleasure.”
If you are sensitive to menthol, this soap and splash is NOT for you.

Oh yeah, the lather is fanfrackingawesome!
Thirsty as heck but once you work enough water into it, you get that epic creamy lather you know is going to be glide perfection.

Picked up the big sister Assassin today and paired it with a Feather.
Given Stirling’s superb lather, it was essentially a 1 pass shave. Plus pickup.
WTG, XTG and ATG all in that first face lather build up, then re-applied to pick up on my usual trouble spots.

Smooth, perfect, glass BBS shave.
