Razor : Tatara Masamune Base + Nodachi Cap + UFO SS Handle w/Tiger Platinum Blade
Post Shave : Thayers Lavender Witch Hazel
Possibly the most no fuss, weirdest shave I have had in a while. Thayers Gentlemen Shave Cream is a brushless, latherless cream. You just squeeze some into your hand, apply and shave. The layer assuming you have wet the face, is slick, with good residual and fantastic post shave feel. Shave itself might feel odd and since without lathering up, the layer does dry up quicker once you have gone through each pass. Just apply a little water if needed.
Post shave feel though can only be described as fantastic. The skin feels soft, without any harshness or drying out that comes with some shaving soaps. While the cream is “scentless”, there is a slight woody scent that is not unpleasant.
Went with the more gentler Tatara configuration today. Clean easy zero irritation BBS shave.
Brush : Friendship Shaving Macy G4 Synthetic by Frank Shaving
Soap : WTF Grey’s Vetiver Tallow Puck in Frank Shaving Apothecary Shave Mug
Razor : Tatara Nodachi w/UFO Standard Handle w/Tiger Platinum Blade
Post Shave : WTF Grey’s Vetiver Aftershave
Others : Tom Ford’s Grey Vetiver
Going with a simple yet one of my favorite shaves from WTF, Grey Vetiver Tallow puck. If you are familiar with Don’s croaps, you’ll love his tallow pucks, which I find to be much to lather up with a much more voluminous, creamier, thicker lather. YMMV of course. Great “high heat” scent for the day.
Again with the default Nodachi today, easily takes all and any growth off. Liking the Tiger blade as well. Its a good substitute if the Bics I love aren’t available anymore. Easy, comfortable zero irritaion BBS shave.
I’ll be going to skip balms for the foreseeable future as due to heat and sweat, there’s a little breaking out. So I’ll just stick to splashes for a while.
Gonna have to head to a test center for a mandatory covid test as we handled a flight with a live case on board.
Just picking out stuff that catch my fancy and am pretty sure I screwed up my rotation, ehhhh whatever. This time round its Soap Commander’s Tenacity and Its pretty much what we all need. Tenacity to weather the insanity going all around the world.
Went with the Vector since I pulled the blade out of the Kamisori, and am not going to be using that razor for any time soon. Just going for an easy, lazy shave.
Post Shave : Cold Shower, PAA Atomic Age Bay Rum Star Jelly Aftershave and Aftershave Cologne
Others : Menthol in Salt Grinder, PAA Atomic Age Bay Rum Deodorant and Epic Solid Cologne
With the arrival of the monsoons, the heat has lessened some but nothing like a cold shower followed up with a menthol shave and a follow up cold shower before putting on the aftershaves. PAA’s Atomic Age Bay Rum is at this point my favorite bay rum scent, though I think that the bath soap could do with a tad more scent strength.
Went with the OREN today, man I forgot how soft this razor shaves. The best description is, cartridge razor feel with a SE (Feather) blade sharpness. I prefer the 2-Dot plate as it sits right at the mild shave feel.
While the 3-Dot is way more efficient and more aggressive, for me, it seems to be more finicky and will need a little more finesse (less pressure and a more attention) or it can bite, the 2-Dot plate is very docile and I think that it is the best for those looking for “no fuss, in a rush” yet comfortable, enjoyable shaves. YMMV.
Needless to say, it was an extremely comfortable, very enjoyable zero irritation BBS shave.
Post shave : Cold Shower, Van Yulay Dress Bleu’s Aftershave Splash and Balm
Others : Van Yulay Dress Bleu’s Deodorant and Cologne
Been a while since picked this one up, Van Yulay’s Dress Bleu’s which is inspired by Chanel Bleu. Scent is a good enough reproduction that if you love that line of scent by Chanel, you’d be more than happy with the soap and splash. I of course had to add in some menthol. Gotta have that menthol in this tropics heat!
Dress Bleu’s is the first of Van Yulay’s hard pucks that I got some time back and I find that I am really enjoying Van Yulay’s hard pucks more than their croaps. It is also slightly cheaper so that means I can get squeeze in an extra puck or two for shipping when factoring in my cost. Win win.
Went with the default Nodachi today. Lately I am really enjoying the this setup even with its more blade forward (+0.13mm) geometry. Its very surprisingly and deceptively smooth, the engineering in the razor pulled off an amazing job in hiding the blade feel, especially if you aren’t looking for it. But I know from experience, that it will bite if you disrespect the blade.
With a little skin stretching, the Nodachi took everything off leaving only glass smooth skin. Perfect no irritation BBS shave.
Pre-Shave : Cold Shower, PAA Cube Face wash, Proraso Wood and Spice Pre-shave Bowl : Van Yulay Resin Brush : Friendship Shaving Macy G4 Synthetic by Frank Shaving Soap : Proraso Wood and Spice Razor : Rockwell Model T w/ Bick Chrome Platinum Blade Post Shave : Cold Shower, Proraso Wood and Spice Aftershave Lotion and Balm Others : Menthol in Salt Grinder
The other Proraso soap that I will have in my rotation as long as they still make them is Proraso’s Wood and Spice. This cream smells fantastically awesome! Performance is “not the best but more than good enough”, which I can live with, that since it smells so good. Ground in some menthol for that much needed cool shave.
I have heard that Proraso has reformulated and their new creams are much slicker now. I wonder if they have done the same for their Tubs and Single Edge Creams. Hopefully we’ll see “New and improved Super Formula” for those too.
Picked up the Parker Variant with a Bic Chrome Platinum Blade. Took my time, slow and easy, and enjoyed the lather and shave. Finished up with another cold shower, then applying aftershaves which smells fantastic and from memory, with that fantastic scent that last quite a long time. Freaking AWESOME!
Razor : Vikings Blade Emperor Augustus w/Bic Chrome Platinum
Post Shave : Proraso Green Aftershave Splash
A simple back to basics shave today and you just can’t go wrong with Proraso Green. Love that feel, love that scent!
Picked up the Empress today with the Bic and its a good razor. Better than most I would say. Good heft, good feel in the hand, textured handle actually works and you can easily grip it with soapy hands. What most people don’t mention is the Asymmetric head :
One side has a scalloped bar and the other a normal straight bar. While some might say that this is gimmicky, it does lend a slight difference to how the blade feels, with the straight bar being very smooth, and the scalloped bar with a little more blade to skin feel. Regardless, I really like this adjustable TTO razor once I got used to its quirks, some of which can be annoying.
Annoying like the razor doors catching on the blade when you try to close it. Or that its easiest to load a blade by first turning it to the most aggressive setting, drop the blade in, set to the setting you want before closing the doors.
Or ignoring that slight curvature of the blade as it is supposed to be a feature. (I really do think that that’s an excuse but whatever)
The bottom line is, this a a very comfortable, very efficient razor. And its pretty good to look at. Though there is a new model, The Meiji Emperor, which looks even better.
Post Shave : Cold Shower, PAA Al Fin Star Jelly Aftershave, Aftershave Cologne
Others : Menthol in salt grinder, PAA Al Fin Deodorant, Epic Solid Cologne and EDP
At last! Finally the last work day of the week for me and I think, it’s time for PAA’s Al Fin.
Its hard to describe this scent as it is one of contrasts, fresh and bright notes with a darker note to give it just a touch of bite. Notes from the site : Rose, Bay Leaf, Lemon Myrtle, Vetiver, White Clover, Cypress, helichrysum (Sunflower), Ambrette, Geranium and Tobacco Absolute.
The only thing that I think would have made it even better if it had been given a touch of menthol. But I am a menth-head. No reason not to grind in some myself of course.
Given the already epic lather and scent, it is only fair ensure that I get that perfect glass, no irritation, “I keep touching myself”, BBS shave that the Copper Ascension paired with a Bic Chrome Platinum blade gives.
While I can, these days do WTG, XTG and ATG in a single pass, I just took my time to enjoy the lather, re-lather and shave. It was glorious!
Brush : Friendship Shaving Macy G4 Synthetic by Frank Shaving
Soap : PAA John Frum
Razor : Rockwell 6S-R4 w/Derby USTA blade
Post Shave : Cold Shower, PAA John Frum Star Jelly Aftershave, Aftershave Cologne
Others : Menthol in Salt Grinder, PAA John Frum Deodorant and Epic Solid Cologne
PRAISE JOHN FRUM! One of the best release last year, John Frum is a fantastic citrus, spice, musk and sandalwood scent. As it is another really hot tropical day, I decided to grind in some menthol. CK-6 soap base needs no introduction and is one of the best I have used, paired with an equally epic musk scent that isn’t overpowering musk, if that made sense, is one shave I knew I was going to really enjoy.
Brought out the old Warhammer. She’s a fantastic workhorse, and still in my opinion one of the best razor system one can buy. Paired with the Derby USTA blade, made for a very comfortable easy shave. Zero irritation, true glass, “I touch myself” BBS shave.
