Shave of the day, 14th September 2020, WTF Himitsu

  • Pre-Shave : Shower, PAA Cube
  • Brush : Oumo 24mm ACE SHD Dual Band Manchurian Badger
  • Bowl : Van Yulay Resin
  • Soap : WTF Himitsu
  • Razor : OREN – Occam’s Razor Enhanced Nano w/Feather Pro Guard
  • Post Shave : WTF Himitsu

Another no stress off day shave and today it’s Himitsu day! Love this beautiful sweet lemon, rose and spice scent. It is definitely one of my favorites from WTF.

Along with the fantastic scent, I went with the most laid back, lazy comfort SE I have the Oren. I get asked often if I prefer this or the Vector and to be honest, while similar they are very different girls. The Vector shaves are precision personified, while this is your easy cuddle shaves.

One pass lather, WTG, XTG and ATG with a cleanup lather pass for the usual trouble spots.
Easy, laid back, comfortable BBS shave.

Shaves of the day, 13th September 2020, Soap Commander Gratitude, Mitchell’s Wool Fat

  • Morning Shave :
  • Pre-Shave : Shower, PAA Cube
  • Brush : Oumo 24mm ACE SHD Dual Band Manchurian Badger
  • Razor : Blackland Vector w/Feather Pro Guard
  • Post Shave : Marks and Spencers Woodspice Aftershave

Morning shave was an easy affair, face lathered with Soap Commander’s Gratitude which smells fantastic BTW, its seasonal so if you have the chance to get it, give it a try.

Went with the Vector and it definitely one of my top 5 Razors, probably one of the holy trinity as well.
Easy precise true glass BBS shave.

  • Evening Shave :
  • Pre-Shave : Shower
  • Brush : Oumo 24mm ACE SHD Dual Band Mancurian Badger
  • Bowl : Van Yulay Resin
  • Soap : Mitchell’s Wool Fat Shaving Soap (grated debris)
  • Post Shave : Clubman Whiskey Woods

Did a little arranging in the bathroom, stacking and making room for a shipment that should come in sometime this week, month, next 3 months?! (goddamn package held up by customs most likely)

Decided to grate the MWF into the tub so that it fills her up and sits right for a tub lather. I like to do that for the soaps that doesn’t come with its own tub / container. Cheap, reusable, with locking lids that allow for stacking is great for soap puck / refill purchases.

Went with the vector again since I still have the blade in, and I just wanted a fuss free, precision shave.

Shave of the day, 12th September 2020, Soap Commander Endurance

  • Pre-Shave : Shower, PAA Cube
  • Brush : Oumo 24mm SHD ACE Dual Band Manchurian Badger
  • Soap : Soap Commander Endurance
  • Razor : Tatara Nodachi Base + Masamune Cap w/Bic Chrome Platinum
  • Post Shave : Soap Commander Endurance Aftershave
  • Others : Menthol in Salt Grinder, Vintage Shulton Old Spice EDT

Had to go for another Old Spice shave. This time with Soap Commander. YMMV on which artisan has it spot on of the Old Shulton but for me it’s Soap Commander’s Endurance.

I actually had a morning shave of the same but I bowl lathered vs this evening’s face lather.
I think for this brush and soap combo, face lathering was gave me better results with less soap used for that thick, creamy lather that is the holy grail.

Went with the gentler Nodachi and I honestly don’t know which I prefer, this or the Masamune-Nodachi combo. I guess they both fits in the mood of what kind of shave I want.
Easy relaxing true BBS shave.

Smelling great, feeling wonderful.

Shave of the day, 11th September 2020, PAA Cold Spices

  • Pre-Shave : Shower, PAA Cube
  • Brush : Oumo 24mm ACE SHD Dual Band Manchurian Badger
  • Soap : PAA Cold Spices
  • Razor : Tatara Masamune Base + Nodachi Cap w/Bic Chrome Platinum
  • Post Shave : PAA Cold Spices Star Jelly Aftershave, Aftershave Cologne
  • Others : Menthol in Salt Grinder, PAA Cold Spices Deodorant, Epic Solid Cologne

Finishing my “Old School Scents shaves” with the original Shulton’s Old Spice.
Yeah, I am still salty that P&G’s lobotomized the Original Shulton into the current day artificial cheap smelling shadow of itself that it tries to pass off as “Old Spice”.

Luckily the scent lives on with artisan soap makers and PAA’s Cold Spices does a fantastic job reproducing it. Just a bid tad light on that almost bitter orange and anise but, it is one of the best reproductions and and a way better than whatever P&G markets as “Old Spice”.

And oh yeah, it has menthol. Well a touch of menthol.
I just added more.

Love the Tatara Masamune-Nodachi and Bic combo as this, for me, is as comfortable as it gets while still being extremely efficient.
Easy, comfortable, true glass BBS shave.

Smelling and feeling fantastic.

Shave of the day, 10th September 2020, PAA Doppelganger Tri-Color (Irish Moos)

  • Pre-Shave : Shower, PAA Cube
  • Brush : Oumo 24mm ACE SHD Dual Band Mancurian Badger
  • Soap : PAA Doppelganger Tri-Color (Irish Moos)
  • Razor : PAA Copper Ascension Twist Adjustable Double Open Comb w/Bic Chrome Platinum
  • Post Shave : PAA Doppelganger Tri-Color Star Jelly Aftershave, Aftershave Cologne
  • Others : Doppelganger Tri-Color Deodorant, Epic Solid Cologne

First things first.
Just got my Oumo Brush with an Ace SHD Dual Band Manchurian Badger knot

It essentially marries the backbone of a dual band with the soft tips of silvertips and being a SHD knot there’s plenty of bristles to hold lather and paint it easily on the face.
For me, I find that a 22mm or 24mm is just right, as I don’t need that much brush to lather up the face.
It is does seem to have more body than my other Dual Band that I have, and as soft as (they claim its better, but I have yet to broken it in so that is yet to be seen) my SHD Silvertips.
It is definitely not floppy which I do like.

Continuing with my old school scented shaves, PAA’s Tri-Color is a homage to Irish Moos (1969) which is a green chypre, which is another way of saying “green mossy” type scent. Very similar to Tabac, though slanted towards much more green notes this is another cologne and aftershave that was found in many a barbershop in days past.
Lather being CK-6, it’s top tier.

Going with the CATA-DOC with TSOA, a combination of the best buffing razor with one of the most consistent very sharp edged blade I have used (YMMV), riding on that CK-6 lather, made for one of the easiest, clean and irritation free BBS shave.

Smelling great, feeling fantastic, ready for a new day.

Shave of the day, 9th September 2020, Lucky Tiger

  • Pre-Shave : Shower, PAA Cube
  • Brush : Oumo 26mm SHD Silvertip Badger
  • Soap : Lucky Tiger Liquid Shave Cream
  • Razor : Tatara Masamune Base + Nodachi Cap w/Bic Chrome Platinum
  • Post Shave : Thayers Lemon Witch Hazel
  • Others : Dior Eau Sauvage Parfum

There are times when there’s nothing like a Citrus Shave and even better if they are old school.

Lucky Tiger’s shave cream has been around the block, and has one heck of a citrus scent.
Lather is surprisingly very good. Unlike most creams, it generates a very thick and slick layer that performs better with slightly more water then less. Go easy on the water though.

If you face lather add water gradually till you like the lather on the face.
Bowl lathering is easier, given its liquid nature.

Residual slickness is very good, you can and I have shaved with residual slickness with just a slight application of water with a wet hand.
Post Shave feel is so so. Good enough that you don’t feel the need for a aftershave but you’d want to anyways.

Picked up the Masamune with the Nodachi Cap, this is my favorite daily driver as it’ll give you one of the most comfortable yet close shave with its precision blade geometry.

One pass WTG, XTG and ATG with pickup pass, too Easy, true glass, perfect, no irritation BBS shave.

Finished with Thayers Lemon Witch Hazel along with Dior’s Eau Sauvage Parfum which is to me still far better than its more recent Sauvage with its beautiful and elegant citrus and resinous woods scent that has stood the test of time.

Smelling fantastic, feeling even better.

Shave of the day, 8th September 2020, Tabac

  • Pre-Shave : Shower, PAA Cube Face Wash
  • Brush : Oumo 26mm SHD Badger Silvertips
  • Soap : Tabac Original
  • Razor : Tatara Nodachi Base + Masamune Cap w/Derby USTA Blade
  • Post Shave : Tabac Original Aftershave Lotion

Can’t have old school scent shaves without Tabac.
Introduced in 1951, aftershaves and body scent around 1959, this is one of the most iconic barbershop scents. I remember when I was a kid (actually even now in some barbershops) I’d smell Tabac all the time whenever go for a haircut.

Went with the gentler Nodachi along with the USTA.
Lather was fantastic, so it was an easy one pass WTG, XTG and ATG followed up with a clean up pass.
Fantastic, zero irritation, true glass BBS shave.

Shave of the day, 7th September 2020, Palm Olive Shave Stick (Grated)

  • Pre-Shave : Shower, PAA Cube
  • Brush : Friendship Shaving Macy Dual Band Badger by Frank Shaving
  • Soap : Palmolive Shave Stick (grated)
  • Razor : Weishi Nostalgic Adjustable w/Derby USTA
  • Post Shave : Aqua Velva
  • Others : Menthol in Salt Grinder

Still on that classic / retro shave scents and it is Palmolive shave stick and Aqua Velva time! I grated my shave sticks into a tub and used it as I would any regular shave soap. Works really well, much easier to get a much thicker lather faster than I remember when using the stick as is.

Razor used is a Weishi Nostalgic Adjustable. Cheap, reliable and does the job. A far better job then some TTOs well above its price price.

Finished up with Aqua Velva!
Along with ground menthol in the Palmolive, this made not only for a retro shave of sorts but a very very refreshing one too.

Shave of the day, 6th September 2020, Fine Green Vetiver

  • Pre-Shave : Cold Shower. PAA Cube
  • Brush : PAA Peregrino
  • Soap : Fine Green Vetiver
  • Razor : Rockwell 6S-R4 w/Derby USTA
  • Post Shave : Fine Green Vetiver Aftershave
  • Others : Guerlain Vetiver

Have a hankering for old school scents.
Probably going to do a few shaves that reminds me of old barbershops, old school Aftershaves or just the sense that the soap / scent / aftershave could have been right at home 30, 50 years ago.

And to kick it off, going to start with Fine’s Green Vetiver which was inspired by Guerlain’s Vetiver released back in 1956. Talk about old school!
Still smells fantastic to me.

Fine’s lather is gloriously good, though no surprise there.

Went with the old Warhammer, with an USTA blade.
While I think Derby Premiums are probably their best blades, USTAs are a close second. Very smooth, able to take growth off easily, I like them.
