Post Shave : PAA Copalli Star Jelly Aftershave and Aftershave Cologne
Others : PAA Copalli Deodorant and Solid Cologne
Fast work day shave. Love that fruity, dark wood incense scent. Takes very little of CK-6 to lather up and give you a very dense, very slick lather to shave with.
Reached for the Vector again, loving her. Still using that unbranded blade, wonder how long it’ll last before it goes dull. Been finding that these blades last a long, long time.
Razor : Rockwell Model T -R2.5 w/Supermax Diamond (2)
Post Shave : PAA Doppelganger Black Cologne Aftershave
Others : Dior Sauvage EDP
Easy simple shave. Scent is spot on with Dior’s Sauvage, was a very enjoyable lather. For those who do not want their aftershave to linger for hours, this is not the one you want. Even the scent from the lather alone will linger for a while on the skin, boosted of course by the AS.
The Model T isn’t my favorite razor, but it does the job. I am still a little disappointed that the feel of the blade on your face is nothing like their 6C/S. But I have learned with work with it.
Razor : Tatara Nodachi Base Plate + Masamune Top Cap w/Supermax Diamond blade (2)
Post Shave : PAA Atomic Age Bay Rum Star Jelly Aftershave, Aftershave Cologne
Others : PAA Atomic Age Bay Rum Deodorant and Solid Cologne
Arguably the best Bay Rum scent I have used to date. Didn’t hurt that CK-6 lathers like a champ. Needless to say using this soap is a great start to the shave.
A note though about PAA’s Atomic Age Bay Rum Aftershave Cologne. Think “Home Alone” aftershave scene. 😂 EPICALLY AWESOME!
And this time its the other Tatara config that I love. Can’t settle on which I prefer, the milder Masamune base + Nodachi cap, or the more aggressive Nodachi base + Masamune cap. Both fits in for different shave moods. Results for both are still a very comfortable, no irritation BBS shave.
Post Shave : PAA Cold Spice Star Jelly Aftershave, Aftershave Cologne
Others : PAA Cold Spice Deodorant, Solid Cologne and EDP
Cold Spice will probably be the PAA soap that I will use up first if judging the amount of aftershave I have left. (I have a spare 🙂 ) Mentholated Old Spice is to me, definitely a damn fine way to wake up to. Its scent a little more powdery but still true to the old Shulton that anyone who loves the original Shulton scent should have this soap in his (or her) den.
Reached for the Vector again today, and this time I corked those “freebie” blades. Much much smoother this time. Perfect glass BBS shave.
Agharta is definitely one to try if you haven’t already done so. With vanilla being quite prominent, balanced by aromatic woods this is a beautiful, sensual, fantastic scent.
Easy shave with the Tatara with predictable results. You just can’t go wrong with mild razors with sharp blades.
Post Shave : PAA Big Shave S’West 2020 Starjelly Aftershave, Aftershave Cologne
Others : PAA Scentless Deodorant, Big Shave S’West Solid Cologne
PAA’s Big Shave S’West 2020’s scent is polarizing, as it seems that there are as many who do like it as there are who don’t.
I was originally one of those who wasn’t wowed by its scent, but after having used it several times, it has grown on me. Would I grow to love it? Maybe, maybe not.
Wife likes it though. 🙂
Brought out my old battle axe today, the Mjolnir, The Rockwell 6S. And it reminded me just how good a shaver it is. Paired with the Supermax Diamond, it was a very very smooth shave. Blade isn’t as sharp as a Feather but it is up there but is very, very smooth. Good stuff.
Very comfortable to the point that I didn’t felt the blade till I went ATG. It was an easy BBS shave.
Gentle Sauvage’s scent is closer to Dior Eau Sauvage (1966) than the 2015 Ambroxan bomb release. It does have the Dior DNA and smells great. Soap performance is middle road for me. Soap produces a yogurt like lather, has good slickness, residual isn’t as good, but comes back strong on the post shave feel.
Curiosity does bad things to cats and to shavers who go “Hmnnn… I wonder if those free blades are any good.” Got them when I bought the Kamisori and thankfully never used them in it. Blade while sharp (Professional type blades, even craptastic free junk blades are sharp as heck) was harsh and the kind of harsh that needs stropping or multiple corking to mellow out.
Going forward, that’s what I’ll do. Cork these buggers a few times and use them for a few shaves before recycling them. Waste not, want not.
Still the Vector did give me a perfect BBS shave, even if it wasn’t the most comfortable.
Brush : Friendship Shaving G4 Synthetic by Frank Shaving
Soap : Van Yulay Enter The Dragon
Razor : PAA Copper Ascension w/Treet Black Beauty
Post Shave : Van Yulay Enter the Dragon Aftershave and Balm
Van Yulay Week
The scent of this soap was to be honest a little disappointing for me. I expected more “Asian Spice” and yes it has spice but my wife describes it as “baby powder” when I asked her what she thought of it.
Bamboo green note is slightly more dominant but like the rest of the notes, are muted. This scent is not going to waft out of the bathroom. Its a good one if you want a light fresh spice scent, however if you like me prefer the more aromatic spice or woods, this won’t tickle your “FUCK YEAH!” bone.
The CATADOC did her job again, easy, clean, perfect BBS shave.
Brush : Friendship Shaving G4 Synthetic by Frank Shaving
Soap : Van Yulay Royal Oudh
Razor : PAA Copper Ascension Twist Adjustable Double Open Comb w/Treet Black Beauty Blade
Post Shave : Van Yulay Royal Oudh Aftershave Splash and Balm
Others : Van Yulay Royal Oudh Deodorant and Cologne
Royal Oudh is one of my favorite scent so far from Van Yulay. And like the Perfume it is inspired by, this is a Tamed Oud scent. It’s not funky and smells fantastic. Unless you really don’t like oud. YMMV.
The cologne last a very long time as well, as it is best described as a sprayed on attar. This is a personal scent cologne so while you’ll smell fantastic it doesn’t have projection, however it does leave a silage trail and those who come into your personal space should detect it.
I have decided to use PAA’s Cube to boost the performance of the shave, to give it more slickness and residual slickness.
Running with the CATADOC today, and it is a buffing God. As long as your lather is slick and gives you a layer of glide, this girl with zero pressure, will give you a shave so close that any closer and you’ll be giving to the Blood God.
Brush : Friendship Shaving Dual Band Manchurian Badger by Frank Shaving
Soap : Van Yulay Black Dragon
Razor : Tatara Nodachi Base Plate + Masamune Top Cap w/Treet Black Beauty Blade
Post Shave : Van Yulay Black Dragon Aftershave Splash and Balm
Van Yulay Week
Black Dragon Scent notes : Cedar, orange, patchouli, rose, jasmine, lilac, blood orange and grapefruit.
This is a very aromatic soap. Very. How so? Your entire bathroom is going to smell gloriously epic! FYI, Aftershave is Witch Hazel based, no alcohol so it should be safe to ship overseas. Balm is really more lotion as it is very liquid in form. Both of my aftershave and balm have menthol and love that cool kick. Scent for both will linger on for a while, just FYI for those who want to know that sort of thing.
Performance though will be middle of the road. Decent slickness (don’t be afraid to load up your brush), not much in way if residual slickness, decent post shave. It does the job. I am wondering if I should put in drops of Glycerin to boost its performance. But it does smell fantastic. I need to get this in Hardpuck form.
I am back to DE razors for my day shaves for a while. And Best Girl gets used first, how I miss her! The Tatara hybrid custom configuration is as fantastically good as I remember it to be. Smooth, extremely efficient even with a “middle of the road” blade like the Treet. A gentle touch and it was easy and lazy as a Sunday stroll at the park.
True glass, perfect no cuts, no weepers, no irritation BBS shave.
